The region's cancer busting team fundraising event, Relay For Life, is returning next year with a challenge set for every community to take part.

Residents of Millicent, Naracoorte, Penola, Keith, Kingston, Robe, Mount Gambier and everywhere in between are invited to join forces with the state's Cancer Council and fight against cancer.

Solar neighbourhood project continues E-mail

The Australian Government new Solar Credit scheme for installation of Photovoltaic Panels is expected to reduce the amount of rebate in half, according to Catherine Pye, secretary of Mount Gambier's Community Action for Sustainability (CAS).

The old rebate scheme was covered by a means test. Under the new Solar Credit Scheme, it is proposed that the means test will be removed. The removal of the means test will increase the number of homes eligible for credits, and include community buildings and businesses in the new scheme.

Solar hot water session a success E-mail

Last Wednesday night, the Community Action for Sustainability (CAS) group presented the first of its solar hot water information evenings.

CAS is in the process of setting up a bulk buying solar hot water project, which will allow Mount Gambier residents to install solar hot water systems at a discounted price.

Update on Solar Neighbourhood Project E-mail

The Solar Neighbourhood Project is still ongoing for those who submitted an application for the rebate under the old scheme.

However, for those waiting for the new Solar Credit Scheme to be introduced there is no news as yet. This is due to the deferment of the Renewable Energy Target (RET) legislation in the Federal Senate on the 17 June 2009. The RET legislation has been deferred to an economics committee that won't report back until mid August 2009.

The Mens Luncheon Group, or as they would have it, the "Lunch Bunch", began meeting a couple of years ago in an attempt to provide opportunities for men to enjoy some company over a meal and a "bit of a yarn". The idea began as the result of some conversations with interested parties around a table in the City Council rooms.

The Community Action for Sustainability (CAS) is a Mount Gambier based community group which, among other things, is creating initiatives to promote solar hot water and heat pump systems, energy efficiency and insulation within the community.

CAS are looking for interest from local residents who are interested in participating in a project to bulk buy solar hot water and heat pump systems. They already have interest from several manufacturers.
