In view of the extreme fire risk and in the interest of public safety, the Department for Environment and Heritage (DEH) is closing all national parks and reserves in South Australia from midnight Sunday 10 January to midnight Monday 11 January 2010.

All vehicle entry points to parks will be closed and the public are advised not to enter any of the parks via walking trails or any other means.

The following exceptions apply:

  • Adelaide Metro - Adelaide Botanic Gardens
  • Mt Lofty Ranges - Wittunga Botanic Gardens
  • Fleurieu Peninsula - Access to Waitpinga and Parsons Beaches within Newland Head Conservation Park and Granite Island Recreation Park
  • South East Region - Naracoorte Caves
  • Outback Region - Wilpena Pound Campground and Resort within Flinders Ranges National Park, and all reserves within the north east and north west pastoral fire ban districts

DEH has fire fighting appliances available with crews on standby on these days of extreme fire danger.
