Mount Gambier and District Cricket played XXXX Gold One Day Cup matches last weekend, with Mil Lel, Yahl, North Gambier and West Gambier recording wins.


XXXX Gold One Day Cup - Round 2

East Gambier vs Mil Lel (McDonald Park 2)

Mil Lel won the toss and elected to bat.

Marcus Von Duve and James Eastick opened Mil Lels innings, and Eastick was the first Mil Lel batsman dismissed from the bowling of Simon Golebiowski for 24 in the 10th over.

Jamie Bellinger and Von Duve took the score to 73 before Bellinger was dismissed by Kerry Rammers for 11 in the 17th over. Marcus Von Duve was next out for 38, caught from the bowling of Daniel Stratford - 3/90 in the 20th over.

Rammers then turned the game in East Gambiers favour by claiming 3/7 from his next 3 overs - Sheldon Currie for a duck, Gareth Von Duve for 2 and Josh Smith for 14, and when Stratford removed Darren Whitehorn for 1, Mil Lel were struggling at 7/96 in the 24th over.

Nick Blachut and Nick Clayton set about resurrecting the Mil Lel innings with a partnership of 53, before Clayton was bowled by Golebiowski for 38 - 8/149 in the 36th over.

Blachut made 45 to push Mil Lel's final total to 181 from 47 overs .

Best of the East bowlers were Kerry Rammers (4/50 off 10 overs), Simon Golebiowski (2/27 from 8) and Scott Allen (2/33 off 9 overs).

East began their innings with Dion Stratford and Aaron Davis opening the batting. Davis was first dismissed for 18 (3 fours & 1 six) with the score at 1/31 in the 5th over.

Matt Norman joined Stratford and took the score to 62 in the 13th over, when he was dismissed by Simon Walters for 10. On the final ball of the same Walters over, Dion Stratford (21) was caught and East were now 3/62 from 13 overs.

That proved to be the end of East's attempt to chase down the Mil Lel score. Daniel Stratford remained unbeaten on 26, but could find no batting ally as East was all out for 117 after 33.5 overs.

Best of Mil Lel's bowlers were Keiran Walsh (3/20 from 8 overs), Simon Walters (2/17 from 8 overs) and Marcus Von Duve (2/5 from 4.5 overs).

Yahl vs Tatiara (Frew Park)

Yahl won the toss and elected to bat.

Ben Wilson and Matthew Feast opened the batting for Yahl, with Feast being the first player dismissed, bowled by Luke Wiese for a duck (1/21 in the 3rd over).

Chris Crouch joined Wilson and moved the score to 53 in the 11th over when Yahl lost their second wicket when Wilson was caught for 25 from the bowling of Luke Exton.

Jacob Langdon and Crouch then had a dominating partnership of 119 runs, broken when Langdon was caught by John Miell from the bowling of Luke Towill for an attractive 70 (10 fours) - 3/172 in the 39th over. Hard hitting Jon Clayton was next out for 2 and the score was 4/176 in the 40th over.

Chris Crouch went for 65, followed by his brother Andrew (13) and the Yahl innings closed at 9/211 from 50 overs.

Ty Devitt recorded the best bowling figures for Tatiara with 3/29 off 10 overs. Other bowlers were Luke Wiese took 2/32 from 9 overs and Luke Towill with 2/52 from 10 overs. The Tatiara bowlers conceded 25 wides.

John Miell and Jarrod Wiese got Tatiara away to a positive start with a 40 run opening partnership, with Wiese being the first to fall for 21 in the 13th over.

Ty Devitt and Miell took the score to 67 when Miell was caught off the bowling of Nick Reader for 34 in the 24th over. Brad Meyer (15) joined Devitt to build a 36 run partnership from the next 11 overs, taking the score to 3/103 from 35 overs.

Devitt was out for 38 in the 38th over, caught off the bowling of David Pick and the score was 4/117, and Tatiara now needed 95 runs from just 12 overs to win the match with 6 wickets in hand.

The Yahl bowlers continued to throttle the Tatiara lower order, with the exception of Luke Wiese who smashed a quick fire 38 not out (2 sixes & 2 fours) from the last 8 overs, before Tatiara were all out for 171 in 49.4 overs.

Best of the Yahl bowlers were Andy Paltridge (4/28), David Pick (2/28) and Andrew Crouch (2/35 - 4.4 overs).

North Gambier vs Northern Knights (Marist Park)

The Northern Knights won the toss and elected to bat.

Michael McGurk (19) and Luke Munro (5) opened the batting for the Knights, but both were bowled in the early overs by off spinner Bryon Cleaver, again opening the bowling for North Gambier.

Liam Downs-Woolley dismissed Shaun Tate for 2, and the Knights were in trouble at 3/31 in the 6th over.

Todd Price and Adam Pitt then dug in with a solid partnership and moved the score to 85  before Price was bowled by Mitch Lewis for 21, the score was then 4/85 in the 24th over.

Pitt was run out for 28 in the next over and the Knights had slumped to 5/86. The tail pushed the score to be all out for 136 in 39.4 overs.

For North, the best bowlers were Bryon Cleaver 3/29 (9.4 overs), Steve McInerney 2/14 (3 overs) and Mitch Lewis 2/17 (4 overs).

North opened their innings with Michael Johnston and Bryon Cleaver, with the pair sharing in another solid opening stand of 62.

Cleaver was the first wicket to fall for 18, bowled by Shaun Tait. Batting at number 3, Michael Silvy failed for the first time this season, out for a duck off the bowling of Sam Graetz.

Johnston was out for 35 - ct Pitt b Graetz and suddenly North were 3/66 in the 16th over. Wallis (9) and Russell Keeley (7) got the score to 89 in the 26th over, however both were dismissed at this score by Michael McGurk.

North was now 5/89 and the Northern Knights were right back in the match. Captain Gavin Coon then steered the ship with a solid 28 not out to guide his team to a 4 wicket win.

North scored 6/138 in 39.2 overs, helped along by the Knights bowlers who conceded 22 wides.

South Gambier vs West Gambier (Blue Lake Sports Park 2)

South Gambier won the toss and elected to bat and were all out for 168 from their 50 overs.

Richard Crute continued his brilliant start to the season by scoring 52. Keiren Ashby made a solid 47, and Josh Thompson chipped in with 25.

Bray Stephenson and Shane Dycer again caused the bulk of the damage for West with the ball by claiming 5 wickets between them. Stephenson finished with 3/29 and Dycer 2/16.

The West innings, in reply, centred around Jason Hann (50) and Stephen Easterbrook (46) being the major contributors, ably assisted by Shane Stevens with 20 not out.

This was enough for West Gambier to get over the line and haul in the South total with 3 overs to spare and 5 wickets in hand. West finished with 5/169 from 46.4 overs.

The South Gambier bowlers shared the wickets with 5 bowlers taking a single wicket each.
