Portland and Redbacks win Under 15 Preliminary Finals E-mail

The Under 15 Hockey Preliminary Finals were held recently at Blue Lake Sports Park.

Winners in the boys were Portland, who now meet Strikers in the Grand Final, while Redbacks won the girls Preliminary Final and now take on Tigers in the Grand Final.

The division three women's hockey competition this year has just two games to go. The top four is set, but not the order in the top four.

Redbacks are safe in fourth but can not get any higher, but West ,Tigers and Riddoch Strikers are all still fighting for the top 3 positions with a double chance at stake and a chance to go straight to the grand final for the winner of the qualifing final.

Tigers still chasing the elusive Redback E-mail

Tigers Men's Division 1 team were looking to claim their first win of the season against their arch rivals Redbacks Hockey Club. These teams have played some tough, close encounters with only one goal separating the two teams (in favour of Redbacks) after three matches this season.

Tigers were quick out of the blocks with a super goal by Travis Doll in their first penetration of the circle. Redbacks replied soon after with specialist Drag Flicker Cam "Cuffy" White converting their first penalty corner of the match.

Hockey season set for a close finish E-mail

In Women's Hockey Division 1, three teams are fighting for the premiership, with any of the top three capable of taking top spot in the coming weeks.

Last years grand finalists Naracoorte and Redbacks are not dominating like last year, Redbacks may even miss the finals. Redbacks had back to back premierships in 2006 and 2007 and lost to Naracoorte in last years grand final.

As we move into the second half of the year the ladders are starting to settle. Teams outside the top four now have to lift their game and also hope teams above them lose and that is not the ideal situation to be in.

Division One Men this week saw first placed Tigers play second placed Redbacks and third placed WestPort play fourth placed Cavaliers, with Riddoch Strikers having the bye. A draw was played between Tigers and Redbacks and that has allowed WestPort to move into second spot on the ladder. WestPort play Tigers this week at 2.30 pm on Sunday and will need to win to hold that second spot.
