The first half was a close match up between both sides, each having opportunities to score goals; Strikers junior Nicole Muller providing opportunity from a short corner which unfortunately did not come to fruition; both sides were goal-less going into half time. With experienced defence players Judy Mitchell & Felicity Richardson being absent from the game meant some inexperienced forwards had to help cover defence for Kirsten Johnston, Harriet Weston and Leanne Martin-Brown who were brilliant in defence. Strikers put up a great fight with some good passages of play especially between Leanne Martin-Brown, Lenni Ligtenberg and Cathy Ashby but West drew the inexperienced defence to their advantage and Renae Nicholson scored late in the second half and shortly again after that to win 2-0. West 2 - Renae Nicholson 2Riddoch Strikers 0 Best Tigers v Portland Both teams were off to a scrappy start. Tigers found their feet by scoring the first goal through Anita Hateley. Portland quickly responded and leveled the score. Tara-Lee Doll had a great passage of play dodging a full defense to score the second goal which again Portland responded and equaled. Tigers got one more to have the half time score 3 - 2. Tigers scored again in the 2nd half. This was a result from a hard hit from Sonia Wilson to be put over the line by Rachel Clay. It was a very close game with both teams playing very similar hockey. A very good effort from Portland who were a new team to face in the Division Three Competition. Tigers 4 - Rachel Clay 1, Anita Hately 1, Tammy Jones 1, Tara-Lee Morgan 1 Best |
