Last weekend's round of A Grade in Mount Gambier Netball Association produced spectacular results across the board.

In the race to the finals all teams stepped up their games a notch to give some exciting results which saw the first draw of the season between South Gambier and Tarpeena in an awesome game.

Zodiacs gave Saints something to think about with a tough game played out in front of a big crowd.

Nomads started to find their feet giving Intruders a competitive game whilst Vicis and Hobitz fought it out to the end with Hobitz taking the game by just one goal.

The heat is now on for all teams as we head into the end of the season with finals netball on all the clubs minds.

Intruders 68 - Nomads 28

Nomads took to the court with the celebration of Michelle Stephens reaching her 200th game milestone. Nomads were missing a few of their strong players, had a task ahead of them to keep up with the full strength line up of Intruders.

With the accurate shooting by Nicole Ruttowski and Kelsie Grubb in Goals, Stephens and Tracey Tzioutzlouklaris had a big challenge ahead. With several of the A2 team providing assistance through the middle of the court, Nomads goalies of Fiona Millard and Narelle Phillips needed to shoot accurately.

Going into the second quarter only 6 goals down, with Sharina Smith moving into defense, things were looking up for Nomads until Intruders stepped up the pace to extend their lead by 30 at the main break.

Nomads made several positional changes with the defense end and allowing the team to settle into its normal positions. Intruders continued their strong play down the court the Leanne Thomson running and providing backup to the consistently strong defense of Caitlyn Grubb and Sally Shaw.

With the Intruders goalies still providing strong shooting, it provided less opportunity for Nomads turnovers.

Going into the last quarter saw Kelly Doyle go into defense with Stephens and apart from their strong effort and a couple of turnovers, it was great to see all players smiling and enjoying the game.

Although it looked on paper as a one sided game, this was not the case during periods of play throughout the game. Nomads to their credit did not give up and lower their heads, but they continued playing with the fight and determination all over the court.

Fiona Millard and Doyle were best for Nomads with Caitlyn Grubb and Zoe Rowlands best for Intruders.

Saints 49 - Zodiacs 28

In a tough physical contest, Zodiacs were able to push Saints coming within only one goal at both quarter and half time breaks, making it an exciting game for spectators and exhausting for the players, who all had to lift their work rate to break the others running game.

In a game that was well controlled by the umpires, both sides pushed the other to the limit, with many physical clashes between players who were focused on the ball and trying to capitalise on any mistakes from the opposition.

It was very much a game that depended on the strengths of the defensive team, with Tanya Thompson making a huge impact on the game in the second half alongside Megan Ridding while at the other end Jessica Porter worked tirelessly in defence with Suzanne Lowe, all taking many hard earned interceptions and rebounds.

Zodiacs have worked hard throughout the season to improve their game and Saturday's effort against the undefeated Saints team proved that they are well on their way to a successful finals campaign.

Best players for Saints were Tanya Thompson and Steph Wighton, Yvette Holmes and Jessica Porter were named best for Zodiacs.

South 34 - Tarpeena 34

South and Tarpeena had a season's first on Saturday with a draw for the Mount Gambier Netball Association on the weekend.

Things were not going South Gambier's way in the first quarter seeing them trail by 9 goals at the end of the quarter.

After some minor changes and regrouping though South was able to take the court in the second quarter with more gusto and they were able to outscore Tarpeena for the quarter.

Kim Stratford and Emily Pulford found their ranged more in the third quarter and Tarpeena's young defender combination or Meighan Hunter and Kayla Gray had their work cut out for them.

South kept applying the pressure and lifted their work rate outscoring the Tarpeena side which put them within 2 goals of Tarpeena in the third quarter.

Both South and Tarpeena went into the final term unchanged and the last quarter was a tough one with South once again outscoring Tarpeena for the quarter and drawing the game.

Centre court players Sarah Ford and Cindy Burford earned their best player awards with Tarpeena's goalie Mandy Richardson and tall defender Kayla Gray earning best for their side.

Hobitz 39 - Vicis 38

Another thrilling result in Saturday's game saw Hobitz just sneak over the line to take the win by just one goal.

Vicis had a slow start in the first quarter which allowed Hobitz to get an early lead in the game.

Hobitz continued their campaign in the second quarter much the same as the last adding a further 14 goals to their score.

Vicis regrouped at the half time break, interchange Adrienne Kennedy took the court at wing defence in place of Misty Dalton. Hobitz reserve Sonya Beare also took the court in place of Sam Siebert on the wing.

Vicis had a massive third quarter, stringing together some good play, which saw them limit Hobitz to just five goals for the quarter whist adding eleven goals to their tally.

There was a good tussle between Vicis centre Alexia Coupland and Kym Stewart from Hobitz with the duo playing strong netball.

An exciting game right down to the end Hobitz defeated Vicis by one goal.

Alexia Coupland earned her spot in best players for Vicis with Kylie Howard and Rebecca Neale and Kym Stewart were awarded best players for the Hobitz side.
