In the Mount Gambier Netball Association games played on Saturday 22 August 2009, Saints defeated Zodiacs Blue and Intruders defeated Zodiacs Gold.

Saints defeated Zodiacs Blue 57-17

Saints celebrated the 200th game of young Rhiannon Primmer on Saturday by delivering a convincing win against Zodiacs Blue.

In the first quarter the play was relatively even with Kerryn Schmidt on the bench, the loss of her height in defence made a difference to the Saints team.

Going into the second quarter the Blue team remained unchanged whilst Saints moved their attacking end around, bringing on Schmidt to combine in the goals with playing coach Sam Primmer and moving ever reliable Vicki Doody to the wing.

Sains extended their lead in the second quarter. There were some great passages of play by the Blue team who have shown a vast improvement over the season. Sal Harfull continued to impress with her sheer determination on court against Thomson in the first half and then Rhiannon Primmer in the second half of the game.

Saints took the court after half time leading 27-11, both teams making changes. With Schmidt returning to the defensive ranks with Megan Ridding and Stephanie Wighton which reinforced their hold on the game limiting the Blue team to just one goal for the quarter.

Chloe Goldsoworthy and Madelyn Van de Veerdonk worked hard in defence for Zodiacs Blue together with Debbi-Ann Pech on the wing. Goldsworthy and Veerdonk were involved in a number of rebounding contests against their opposition.

Zodiacs Blue worked consistently all game but weren't good enough against Saints. Sal Harfull was awarded best player for her team together with Debbie-Anne Pech and Stephanie Wighton and Georgie Maddern earned their best player title repectively.

Intruders 48 defeated Zodiacs Gold 34

Intruders plied on the goals early in the game against Zodiacs Gold. Shooters Nicole Rutkowski and Amanda Easson shared a 15 goal haul in the first quarter despite the best efforts from defenders Tanielle Brooskby and Jessica Mowatt.

Zodiacs Gold found the rhythm in the second quarter and was able to go goal for goal against Intruders, with the sound shooting of Querida Harmer and Yvette Holmes.

At half time Intruders still had a lead of ten goals but Zodiacs Gold were not to be discouraged by coming out and continuing to work hard.

Abbey Elkins played well in Centre against Le-Anne Thomson, making herself available where possible to her defenders and assisting with driving the ball though mid court.

Sonya Neale and Ashlie Michell worked well together applying plenty of pressure to the Zodiacs goalies and being instrumental in many turnovers with the mid court ready to drive the ball down to their goalies.

Given Intruders early lead in the first quarter it was hard to the Gold team to regain any ground and Intruders maintained their lead throughout the game.

The final score was 48-34 with Nicole Rutkowski and Amanda Easson chosen as best players for Intruders and Zodiacs Gold Yvette Holmes and Abbey Elkins selected as best players for their side.
