Wrattonbully Wine Region, which is one of SA's most exciting and successful wine regions, will showcase its best drops at a Naracoorte based race meeting on 26 November, 2009.

The Wrattonbully Race Day will see some of the biggest names in wine come together with industry representatives and racing fans to toast the sport of kings in style in the heart of the Limestone Coast.

Eight races have been scheduled, including the highly anticipated Yalumba Cup named in honour of major sponsor, Yalumba Wines. ABC Grandstand radio personality Peter Walsh will be the official MC at the event, which will also feature live music and a decadent, two course trackside luncheon complete with Limestone Coast produce and Wrattonbully wines.

"This is a wonderful opportunity to share the fruits of our success, and we urge punters and food lovers alike to book a table at this fabulous event," says the Wrattonbully Wine Industries Association chairperson, Neil Ottoson. "The timing of it makes it an ideal Christmas function, so we're also extending our invitation to other wine regions like Mount Gambier, Bordertown and Mundulla who may not host their own celebratory events."

Richard Goodine, Asia Pacific export director for the Tuscan-based wine company Castello Banfi's, has been confirmed as a guest speaker.

"Currently based in Bangkok, Richard often appears on local cooking shows and conducts wine classes at Bangkok University and through his own Bangkok Wine Academy, so we are really looking forward to his international take on the wine industry," says Mr Ottoson.

Rabobank is sponsoring an industry-focussed seminar prior to the opening race, led by Retallack Viticulture managing director Mary Retallack. Ms Retallack is a third generation viticulturist with a wealth of experience working as a senior viticultural consultant, vineyard manager, trainer and research program leader, and will share a product called VineBiz.

"This product has been developed for Wine Grape Growers Australia (WGGA) and features a number of vineyard business development tools which can have real benefits in terms of improved enterprise management skills, enhanced decision making, and more confidence in negotiating grape purchase arrangements," says Mr Ottoson.
