international-awards-vadoriIn one of the last events of a successful year, the Italo Australian Club last night hosted the International Soccer Club 2009 end of season awards night.

A highlight of the night was the induction of Gino Vadori to the International Soccer Club Hall of Fame. Gino Vadori is the first inductee to the Hall of Fame, and follows a successful career both on and off the pitch, and an almost life long devotion to the promotion of the game at Casadio Park.

As well as trophies for each grade, four major club trophies were presented on the night.

The Clem Michielan Memorial Club Person of the Year Award was presented to Rob Dimuccio by Mrs Michielan. Rob was lost for words after being presented with the award, as it brought back memories of his father, Bert Dimuccio, who worked closely with Clem Michielan at the Italo Australian Club for many years.

The two major junior awards were:

Luigi Michielan Memorial
Junior Player of the Year Award
Matthew Dohnt
Bert Dimuccio Memorial
Junior Encouragement Award
Nick Morony

At the end of the night, one of the worst kept secrets in Mount Gambier sporting history was confirmed when Tony D'Agostino stepped down as coach of the senior teams.

Conventional coaching wisdom says that coaches should not become too close to the players. Tony D'Agostino disregarded this conventional wisdom, and combined his people management skills to mould a group of good players into a group of friends, and one of the best teams that International Soccer Club has seen.

Throughout the night Tony paid tribute to his assistant coach, Lou Zaccardo, who was at his side throughout the six years. Tony and Lou spent the last six years at the helm of both the A and B Grade sides, winning all six A Grade Premierships, as well as countless other trophies, during that period.
