In one of the second round clashes that willl determine this year's premership, International proved far too strong for Centrals running out eventual winners 5-0. International commenced the game the stronger, playing the game at a very quick pace that the Centrals team were finding difficult to match. The ground conditions were proving to be difficult for both teams, with players struggling to keep their feet. International had the first couple of chances, but the Centrals defence led by Jesse Whenham was giving their all to keep them at bay. This task became impossible, when some quick passing exchanges between Andrew Ielasi, Dante Bonner and Dave Galloway found the ever-reliable Joel Redfern free in the penalty area and running towards goal with only the goalkeeper to beat. The Central defender had no option but to stop him illegally, taking him down in the penalty area, resulting in an easy penalty decision. Marcus Morony stepped up and convincingly drove the ball passed Centrals keeper Brodie Koop into the goal. This gave Inter a well-deserved 1 nil lead. The Centrals players picked up the intensity after this point, and with Matt Gordon and Ryan Tobin having more influence, created their best opportunity of the match when from a slip by Tony Bueti, Jose Estevez got behind the Inter defence, but with the Inter keeper Brett Reid exerting some pressure on him, forced Estevez to hit his shot wide of the post. The creative play by Adam Osman, Joel Redfern, Dave Galloway and Dante Bonner was proving very difficult for the Centrals team to control, and they provided many good chances for forwards Marcus Morony and Christian Cella, who were creating havoc up front for Inter. The second half saw Inter lift the pressure again, which saw a dominating performance by Christian Cella where he was unstoppable, scoring all of Inter's 4 second half goals. Cella's first came within 5 minutes of the restart, when from a Dave Galloway corner he found Tony Bueti alone at the back post. Bueti headed the ball across the face of goals where Joel Redfern was first to react, but again he found his shot rebound off the cross bar. The ball fell nicely to Marcus Morony who cleverly headed it towards Cella, who made no mistake in scoring from close range. Rob Manfrin who was returning back into the team for his first game for a few weeks replaced Tony Bueti, and he continued where Bueti left off, calmly marshalling the Inter backline. At the 20 minute mark, Dante Bonner played a superb through ball that beat Shane Heemskerk in the Centrals defence and found Adam Osman. Osman outrun his opposition player, and easily went around the Centrals goalkeeper, then unselfishly passed the ball in front of an open goal for the ever reliable Christian Cella to tap in for his second goal. With the Inter players now controlling the game, and showing superior fitness, Adam Craig and Chris Williams began to push forward as well from the back line, which made the task of getting something out of the game more and more difficult for Centrals. From one of these forays forward, Christian Cella scored the best goal of the game, with some excellent individual skill, he ran at the Centrals defence, and then brilliantly drove the ball low and with precision passed Koop in goals beating him at his near post registering his second hat trick in two weeks. Inter brought on Barry McCoy who earlier in the day already had an influential role in helping the Inter B Grade to a win when he single handily took down the Centrals defence. McCoy was instrumental in helping Christian Cella in scoring his fourth goal and Inters fifth for the game, when he took a very quick free kick that caught out the Centrals players again, and Cella found himself on his own and powerfully headed the ball into the top corner of the goal. This gave Christian Cella his second hat trick in 2 weeks. Ash Morris came on at the end and started finding some good form, and gave his team more avenues to goal. Inter ended the game strongly, recording a comfortable 5 nil win. Results: International v Gambier Centrals - WBSA Premership Round 9 A Grade B Grade Under 17 Under 14 Under 12 |
